Biography
David Verbree graduated from Calvin College in 1999 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Computer Science-Software Engineering. After graduation, he worked for Smith's Aerospace, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During this time, he was involved in organizing volunteers to work on repairing roofs in inner-city homes. Dave's previous experience in development work was in high school, when he founded the Diakonia Team, a mobile summer work camp traveling across the country to build homes for Habitat for Humanity.
In 2002, David worked in Afghanistan doing relief/development work for a Christian humanitarian aid organization. He was involved in directing a national staff of nearly 40 engineers and support staff, writing grant proposals, and managing many projects including the construction of roads, schools, and over 1,000 homes for internally displaced people and distribution of emergency supplies. These projects were funded by several donor organizations including the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) with budgets exceeding a million dollars.
In 2003, David left the field to be married to his wife, Cheryl and they recently welcomed their new son Peter to the family. David returned to work as an engineer for
DornerWorks? Ltd. of Grand Rapids, MI who contracted him to Smiths Aerospace through 2006.
He is currently doing electrical work for a construction company, Building Services Group (BSG), of Rochester, New York for the summer while he continues to fundraise for Verbree International.
